ABOUT US

Founded in Fargo, ND and Moorhead, MN in the 1970s, the Swedish Cultural Heritage Society of the Red River Valley (Swedish Society for short) is a group of people who want to celebrate their Swedish heritage, or who just love Sweden and Swedish culture. This family-friendly group gets together for public and private events celebrating Swedish cultural events and holidays, promotes Swedish music, literature, and art, and just plain has fun!

The Swedish Cultural Heritage Society of the Red River Valley is dedicated to providing joyful fellowship, engaging events, and culturally significant opportunities for the Swedish, Swedish-American, and Swedish-curious population of the Red River Valley in Minnesota and North Dakota. ​

SOME FUN SWEDISH FACTS

Dalahäst | Dala Horse
​The Dala horse or Dalecarlian horse originated in the Dalarna province of Sweden as a children's toy. Today, the brightly painted wooden horses are a popular and recognizable symbol of Sweden and Swedish heritage.

Swedish Flag
Blue and yellow have been used in Swedish national and military flags since the 16th century. The modern flag is a yellow Nordic cross (shared by all the Nordic countries) on a field of light blue.

Fika | Coffee Break
The long Swedish tradition of a mid-morning and/or mid-afternoon coffee break, called fika, has become increasingly popular outside of Sweden as a way to slow down and enjoy the moment.
